Social Skills Curriculum
Social Skills Instruction
As part of our school's emotional support program, each eligible student will receive formal instruction within the social skills curriculum. The following are the five core areas of the program:
SELF-AWARENESS SKILLS TRAINING
Developing the ability to understand and assess one's own feelings and abilities
(strengths and weaknesses)
EMPATHY SKILLS TRAINING
Developing the ability to reflect and appreciate others' point of views and feelings
SELF-MANAGEMENT SKILLS TRAINING
Developing the skills and abilities to directly control one's own emotional output during
events and moments that are challenging
COMMUNICATION SKILLS TRAINING
Developing the skills needed to interact appropriately with others such as use of proper tone,
voice, and active listening
DECISION MAKING SKILLS TRAINING
Developing the skills and abilities needed to make appropriate decisions based on reflection
of available variables and factors
