Carol Lusignea
Lion’s Pride Award for December 2015

It is with great joy that we give the Lion’s Pride award for December 2015 to Carol Lusignea.  Carol is the Health and Physical Education teacher at Pine Road School, but she does so much more for the District, for our students, and our staff.

Along with her colleague, Darrin Mickle, she offers a Halloween gym that is one of the lasting memories that kids leave with from Pine Road.  Darrin and she also raise money through an annual American Heart Association fundraiser.  She devotes numerous hours to her jump rope team.  She is the Pine Road Wellness Chairperson, which is focused on students, and is co-chair of the District’s Wellness Committee, which is focused on staff.  It was in this last capacity that she led the effort to organize a Wellness Fair for staff at the beginning of this school year that got extremely positive feedback.  The Fair had everything from healthy cooking demonstrations to mindfulness seminars to doing exercises while balancing on a stationary surfboard.  It is no wonder that Carol says that she enjoys event planning because she gave up much of her summer vacation to pull it off.

Her journey to this point started when she graduated from Upper Moreland High School and then from East Stroudsburg University.  She married a Lower Moreland graduate, Bill Lusignea.  After coaching and teaching stints in surrounding districts, she felt like she “hit the jackpot” when she got a job at Pine Road.  She was a part-time Health and PE teacher and then did a stint as an Instructional Support Teacher before a full-time Health and Physical Education position became available.  She is in her 20th year with the District.

In that time, she raised a daughter, Lauren, who is a Health and Physical Education teacher at Souderton High School and the head field hockey coach.  Lauren has a two-year old daughter, Taylor.  She also has a daughter, Lindsay, who is a yoga entrepreneur and a son, Brian, who is a finish carpenter.

In her spare time, Carol enjoys gardening and painting furniture and visiting her family’s vacation home in Mystic, Connecticut.
