    1. Create Your Own Sculptures- Grades 6,7,8 (Maximum of 15 Students)

                          Mondays - March 6,13,20 April 3,17,24

                          MA Room 102

                          Cost - $70          

    Dive into the world on 3D art!  In this course we will be looking at various sculptors including Henry Moore, Robert Indiana, Claes Oldenburg and more!  We will build using plaster, wire and other materials to create original works of art.  Be prepared to learn a number of building skills to assemble your project!   

    Instructor: Ms. Alex Curzi has been an art teacher for 7 years and has her master’s degree from St. Joseph’s University.  She has taught art in Philadelphia, New York City and San Francisco.  Her work as a professional artist varies in mediums including; watercolor and oil painting, weaving, building furniture.

     


    1. Fashion is a Verb!: Jewelry Design in 3D - Grades 6,7,8 (Maximum of 10 Students)

                   Mondays - March 6,13,20,27   April 17,24

                   MA Library 

                   Cost: $70 

    What does the future of jewelry look like? Using traditional jewelry design as a starting point, student designers will throw out the rules and re-imagine their own definition of jewelry. We’ll start by creating inspiration boards, sketch and share our ideas, then learn to build what we’ve imagined in a Computer Aided Design program. We will print our designs in PLA (a bioplastic) on Murray Avenue’s 3D printer and use traditional finishing techniques to complete each student’s unique wearable piece of art.

    NOTE: Students will be using web 2.0 program TinkerCAD, and therefore must be 13+ or have parent permission.

    Instructor: Reesha Grosso is the Murray Avenue Library Media Specialist. Throughout her education and career she has devoted much time and effort to exploring the areas where art and science come together. While earning her graphic design and science education degrees, Ms.Grosso studied 2D and 3D design, jewelry studio, fashion history, and digital media.

     


    1. Creative Writing - Grades 6,7,8 (Maximum of 10 students)

          Tuesdays - March 7,14,21,28   April 18,25

    Do you secretly like to write? Have you always scribbled your thoughts down? Do you keep a diary? Ready to embrace your talent, and finally express your writing abilities?  There’s no pressure to work on a specific project or even settle on which type if creative writing you prefer. The idea is to explore – see with a writer’s eyes, spark ideas to life, gain confidence, and experiment with both fiction and nonfiction.

    Creative writing is one of the most fulfilling ways to express yourself! Come on in! The water’s fine!

    Instructor: Camille Rylak is the 8th grade Learning Support Instructional Aide at Murray Ave School. She has a PA Teacher Certification in English and a MS in Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum from Drexel University. She has always had a passion for reading and writing and has shared that spirit with her three daughters. She looks forward to sharing her knowledge and excitement  for creative writing with your student!

    1. Everyday Engineering: Invention Design in 3D - Grades 6,7,8 (Maximum of 8 Students)

    Have you ever had one of those days where nothing goes right? Imagine the perfect storm where your shoelaces are untied, the zipper breaks on your pencil case, and you trip up the stairs… We will act like crime scene investigators, combing through our daily lives for some improvement that we could make that would change everything for the better. We’ll start by researching and sketching our ideas. Students will learn to build what they’ve imagined in a Computer Aided Design program, and will print designs in PLA (a bioplastic) on Murray Avenue’s 3D printer. We’ll use the engineering design loop to test and improve our inventions, then put them to use to solve all the world’s problems.

    1. Beauty: Inside & Out - Grades 6,7,8  (Maximum of 20 students)

               Thursdays - March 9,16,23,30  April 20,27

          Location - MA Room 310

          Cost: $70  

    This enrichment course will guide young ladies through the elements of proper skincare and age appropriate cosmetic application. The class will include hands-on experience in maintaining healthy skin, selecting the right products for appropriate skin types, and applying makeup softly and naturally .  The class will also focus on a healthy skin/body image and self-esteem through a positive life perspective.  Beauty is both on the inside and out, and the goal of the program is to make young  ladies feel amazingly beautiful and special because they are.

    Instructor:   Rebecca Elias has been the 7th grade Language Arts teacher at Murray Avenue for 10 years.  She graduated from the University of Missouri in 2002 with Communication and Marketing degrees with an emphasis in broadcast journalism.  She completed her Masters of Secondary Education at West Chester University with a focus in English Language Arts in 2007 and obtained a K-12 principal certification from Gwynedd Mercy College in 2012.  

    Throughout this time Mrs. Elias has freelanced professionally as a special event makeup artist and hair stylist primarily for weddings/bridal parties and TV/print advertising for companies such as QVC and AFP.  She has over 13 years cosmetic experience working at Nordstrom, Saks, Neiman Marcus and Bloomingdales. She is skin care certified and has worked for a variety of beauty lines such as; Bobbi Brown, Chanel, Clinique, Lancome, Smashbox, and Laura Mercier.  She currently is a sales representative for Arbonne International which is a cosmetic line that focuses on pure, safe and botanically based skincare, beauty products, and nutrition items.

    1. Introduction to Healthy Cooking - Grades 6,7,8  (Maximum of 10 students)

               Thursdays - March 9,16,23,30  April 20,27

               Location - MA Room 107

               Cost: $70  

    Want to learn some easy, healthy meals to cook for yourself and your family?! This is the class for you!  During each session, we will learn how to cook either a complete breakfast, lunch or dinner that is simple and healthy.  Students will learn tips and tricks to create their own meals to learn self sufficiency.  The price includes the cost of food.

    Instructor: Rachelle Egerton  teaches 7th and 8th grade science at Murray Avenue Middle School.  She loves to cook and spends her time researching new recipes and trying new healthy flavors.  Mrs. Egerton believes that enabling students to learn healthy cooking skills will allow them to thrive independently and make good choices for their future.
